Here is news from Audubon Pennington park on 1153 Alton Rd, Port Charlotte 33952. Rob heads up the volunteers that work there every Wednesday at 8 AM. Interested in helping PRAS Audubon with this important challenge. Contact Rob or just show up any Wednesday.

A mature Red Bay that had a plant specimen sign had died 2 years ago. We found another tree on the same trail and moved the marker sign. Hurricane Ian knocked down that Red Bay too. During hurricane cleanup we found a small Red Bay tree and today we moved the tree marker sign to that location. The wooden post had a large chunk of concrete on it making it very heavy. The new tree was a good distance away so our volunteers George and Sara brought a wheelbarrow to transport it to the new site. See photo. Later today we discovered a patch of small Red Bay seedlings so we now have more of these trees growing at the park.
